TBD Takes NYFW Part I
Hi babes,
I’m back from one of the most amazing experiences in my life. Probably since I was about 13 years old, I’ve always dreamed of going to New York Fashion Week. There’s something special about different icons in the fashion industry coming together as one.
The designs, people, outfits, music, lights, cocktails…OMG. New York Fashion Week was everything I could have hoped for and more!
Let me give you a run through of the day…
So, deciding to go to NYFW was a last minute decision. Tickets were bought Friday afternoon and I was in the city by 9AM Sunday (procrastination is my middle name). I decided to bring my lovely friend, Anna. Side note- make sure the guest you bring can hustle the streets of the city. There’s nothing more annoying than someone coming along for the ride but needing help with everything… YAWN. Anyways, Anna was the perfect travel buddy and before I knew it she was up and talking to the designers of the show.
So, we arrived around 9:00AM Sunday. The weather was surprisingly cool. We were just coming for the day, so we didn’t have to check into a hotel BUT needed to freshen up. We quickly made our way through Times Square to the Westinn Hotel. We took over the bathroom with our hairspray, straighteners, and of course, false lashes. I was cracking up laughing because it was SO Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen.
After freshening up, we called an Uber and made our way over to a Starbucks in Chelsea, Manhattan. The Starbucks was super cute! We charged our phones, sipped on some coffee and quickly headed out to the first show, I’MPOSSIBLE COLLECTIVE
As soon as we pulled up to the venue, ArtBeam, the line was already 50 girls deep. We jumped out and stood in line and waited…for an hour. GUYS, the term “Fashionably late” is A THING IN NEW YORK. Nothing in New York is on time!
Once the doors opened we were all ushered inside, luckily we managed to get seats (my feet were already hurting). As soon as the lights and music hit, I started to feel emotional. I couldn’t believe that I was sitting at a show in New York Fashion Week. Just last year, I remember thinking it was impossible to go and that I’d have to wait a few years before making that happen. Anyways, the show was amazing and super urban chic. There were a total of 3 designers and before we knew it the show was over and we were on to the next.
We were really hungry and our phones were dying so we made our way over to Bubby’s, a super yummy brunch spot. We sipped on some champs and Bloody Mary’s while mapping out where we needed to go next.
The next show was at Pier 59. The venue was stunning! This process was a little bit more quick and fast paced. We got there 15 minutes early (always get there early!) We were checked in and lined up for the show. The first show we were attending at this venue was, Custo Barcelona. This was insane. There were people everywhere. We grabbed a seat and waited for the show to start. The music at this show was much more upbeat and fun. I couldn’t believe we were there!
Amaaazing, right?
We had about an hour until the next show. I quickly pulled Anna into the opposite direction of everyone else and we made our way through people dressed in all black with NYFW badges (fake it until you make it, right?!). We ended up on the venues roof top deck, which was sooo chic and beautiful. We grabbed a glass of Rose and found a seat. Everyone around us was dressed in designer and the majority of their friends were snapping pics of them for Instagram. A few minutes later, we were approached by the sweetest woman! Turns out she was an editor for the New York Times. We exchanged business cards and chatted about the industry over a chilled glass of Rose. We gave hugs and parted ways, little did we know we would run into her again later in the night (keep reading).
The next show we were there to see was Carmen Marc Valvo. We ended up getting a great seat right up front. The designs were absolutely breathtaking and they will all be available for purchase in January. By the end of this show, my phone was on 1% (blogger probs) so, we made our way back out to the rooftop deck where we had been prior to the show. We had about an hour to kill before heading backstage for our next show.
While we were outside mingling, we both were pulled into another direction by the New York Times editor we had met before. She quickly told us to pull out our cellphones for recording because we were going to be interviewing Carmen, the designer of the show…. um excuse me!?! I got distracted while Anna was interviewing because two beautifully dressed women walked in- Miss Universe, Pia, and Miss USA, Deshauna. They both looked stunning.
Before Anna and I could grasp what just happened, we had to grab our things and run backstage for the next show. This was one of my favorite parts of the day. We were backstage for Rosenthal Tee. I loved being backstage and seeing behind the scenes of the show. I think from being a model myself, its exciting to see what goes into the production process of a show. People don’t realize all of the work it takes to put on a successful show. It was really cool seeing all of the hard work backstage and then getting to see everything in action.
My first NYFW experience was truly unforgettable. I’ve dreamed of working in this industry since I was a little girl. My heart is in fashion. But, I could not have had this experience without all of the love and support from you guys.
I love you all!
xx
