TIPS FOR USING HASHTAGS

Using hashtags can be helpful but also look distracting in the comment of your photo, here are some rules I generally follow

-Use 1-2 relevant hashtags maximum in the caption of your photo
-If using additional hashtags, leave a comment under your photo with any more # you want to use. This will still get your photo seen by people who click the hashtag, but will be less distracting to your followers when initially reading the caption when scrolling ( I do this with almost all of my photos)
-Remember you can only hashtag your own photo, so leaving a comment on someone else’s picture with a #hashtag won’t result in it being shown
-You can use up to 30 hashtags in a photo
-If attending an events or destination, find out the dedicated hashtag and post using that to be shown on the top posts for that #hashtag to gain new followers
-Using relevant hashtags gives you the chance to end up on TOP POSTS for the hashtag, giving millions of new people a chance to find your page

HASHTAGS TO USE

The right hashtag can attract a community of IGers who are interested in your type of content. Before you go making a lengthy list and attaching it to every single post, be sure to research the tags you’re using.

Does it make sense for that specific image?
Is it attracting people that would have a genuine interest in what you are promoting?
Is it an active tag with a community you want to be a part of?

If all the answers are yes then tag away! Here are some popular tags, and when it’s appropriate to use them. Be sure to copy each list you need and save it to your notes in your phone to use when needed!

I have about 5-10 separate notes with tags for each specific genre of photos I post (wellness, style, beauty, etc)

Be sure to stay up to date with new hashtags (check bigger brands or bloggers to see what they are using)

These are great for normal blogging content. These are pretty generic but still check out each one before you begin using it.

Since the tags are so overused it’s best to use a mixture of generic tags like #hair and #haircut with specific ones like #balayage, #naturalhair, or #blonde. If you’re a stylist focus on posting transformation videos, they’re best for showing off your skills and get reposted more than images. Always tag them to bigger accounts like @wakeupmakeup or @hudabeauty
