MEET– Fitness Guru & Total Babe: Bethany Joy

Guys. I am SO excited right now. So, a couple weeks ago I decided to start a 30- day nutritional cleanse program (best decision ever, btw)

Basically, once you start the program you instantly get put into all of these AMAZING groups with AMAZING people. Although the program is to die for, the inspirational women and men that are changing their lifestyles with you and right in front of your eyes is the best part.

One night while scrolling through the nutritional cleanse groups, I came across an amazing woman- Bethany Joy. I was instantly inspired with her positive vibes and wise words. I knew she would be a perfect contribution to The Brunettes Diary

So, lets get talkin’…

Hi Beth, So excited to have you on The Brunettes Diary. So, Introduce Yourself:

BJ: Hi!! My name is Beth (Bethany Joy) and I am a big dreamer, a ocean lover, a traveler, a life enthusiast, a part time mermaid and a surfer. I am currently obsessed with tropical/summer house music, laying on the sand with no towel, island adventures, and strawberry super food smoothies.

To earn my keep I am a health and wellness mentor and life coach. I was introduced to nutritional cleansing 15 months ago by a friend of mine. It changed my life so I started doing it as a business on the side until it replaced my income. I now get paid to help everyday people to transform their health and their bank account to create a life of true wellness and freedom for themselves and their family. It has also enabled me to travel all over the world, more than I have ever been able to in the past and really pursue and follow my personal dreams and passions!

My life hasn’t always rainbows and unicorns. I’ve gone through a lot growing up. The make or brake that took place happened only a few years ago. I found myself close to facing deaths door when my best friend, and the man I was so in love with was more troubled in his soul than I ever could have known. My life literally turned into a very real horror story. I wished I could wake up from the reality of what was going on but it just wouldn’t go away and the worst part is.. no one knew, and if they did… it would risk my life even more. I really believe God had his hand on my life because without certain interventions at the right times I don’t believe I would be here today. I am a domestic violence survivor.

It’s been two years on and I can honestly say that I truly have the most abundant, beautiful, and fulfilling life I could have ever imagined and honestly, I know this is only the beginning. My life and health journey truly began when all of that ended. I have always been an active, sporty girl but honestly I hated the thought of just going for a run or going to a gym for no purpose or reason at all. I was always a team sports person or going for a surf was my version of exercise. A lot of people say to me “i’m not motivated to get healthy or to go to the gym” and i totally understand where you are at because that was me too! If you don’t FEEL well or feel happy then yes most of the time you won’t want to do anything. My fitness and exercise side of things only came to be when i started incorporating nutritional cleansing into my lifestyle. It wasn’t a diet, it was literally just adding good nutrition into what i was already doing (which was hardly any exercise and thinking spaghetti bolognese was healthy). Sounds crazy I know… but i’m just being honest. My food choices have certainly changed over time as well as my motivation to exercise because i actually have the energy, feel well and am happy to do it now. Nutritional cleansing is honestly what has changed my life! I then went on to do body building/fitness competition show. It’s something I only dreamed about a few years ago which now I have been able to take my goals to the next level! I competed in the INBA WA in May 2015 and placed 2nd for my first time on stage with only four weeks of prep! It was a very exciting experience!

Weekly Workout Schedule:
BJ: Abs, abs and more abs. Everyone loves a good six pack, and honestly, it’s the most noticeable part of your body for sure! Squats also not only tone that booty but get it into a nice perky shape, it also helps reducing cellulite! The biggest key is consistency. Always start with your goals small. If you are just starting or feeling a bit unmotivated, just start with 20 sit ups a day until it becomes a habit, and then increase it and make your next another goal!

A Day In The Life:
BJ: Honestly I wish i never had to sleep most days because I get so excited about being alive that I want to soak up every second of daylight that is around! Waking up early means a happier Beth. I make sure i start my day with some sort of “ritual” or meditation. It’s never the same because i’m a very spontaneous person. Some mornings i’ll go down to the beach with a pair of head phones, sit with crossed legs on the sand and listen to Headspace (it’s a meditation app). Other mornings i’ll put on a motivational youtube video! Some of my favourites are Prince Ea and Preston Smiles. I might go for a walk down the coast and get a coffee listening to a podcast or some tropical house, and probably my most grounding and favourite meditation is to go sit in my local corner store cafe, journal, read the bible and spend time with God. I like to write down all of the things i’m grateful for. Sometimes i like writing a list of little good deeds I can do for the week and then put it in my schedule to bless people. My meditation/rituals usually takes about 10-30 minutes depending on what I decide to do that day.

I always schedule my days Monday – Friday. I have a diary that keeps me organised otherwise to be honest my life would be way too chaotic and a big value i wanted to incorporate into my life was being impeccable with my word. So when I’ve said to someone “lets catch up” I actually schedule it in my diary and try to follow up the night before.

My schedule is usually working from home, a cafe or the beach in the morning. In the afternoons i have meetings, calls, online webinars and events most evenings. Some days are busier than others but really I can pick and choose my hours and if i want to have a day or a week of more adventure than i do what my soul really loves! I often book in surf trips and holidays because travel is probably the thing that lights me up the most.

Cocktail Of Your Choice:
BJ: I had this incredible strawberry cocktail at Potato Head in Seminyak – Bali. I think by far that has to be the best thing I have ever had in my life. It came out with a mini wooden spoon and soft strawberry foam on top. So if you are ever there, that is the place to go for sure! Anything tropical or an espresso martini will make me a happy camper!

Secret Beauty Tip:
BJ: Eyebrows!!! Getting that wax and tint is the best thing ever! Your eyebrows are what really bring definition to your face so my top tip is get a good brow stylist and tell them how much you love them every time you visit. Making sure you use organic natural products on your skin is also so important! Your skin is your biggest organ so teat it well.

Tips For Success:
BJ: Don’t listen to broke and unhappy people (this includes your best friends and family by the way). When I started my journey I had a lot of people “de-friend” me on Facebook, some wrote me nasty messages and some just bluntly ignored me even in my own home. It was so crazy. I really had no idea what was going on, all that was different was that I had decided to pursue my passions and where my heart was leading me. YES it hurt, but thank GOD i didn’t listen to them! Perhaps they did have good intentions to protect me, but not all advice is good advice. If you are scared to get rejected, then it’s going to be really hard to get anywhere life… honestly. Some of the most intelligent and successful people in the world are a result of not listening to negativity or a no. Oprah, Steve Jobs, J.K Rowling… these are some big names. They all got rejected not just once but many many many times and have had a massive impact on the world in their own way! That’s a big clue.

Favorite go-to Healthy Food:

BJ: Superfood smoothie bowls! I love packing heaps of fruit on it like berrys, banana, strawberry, coconut, mango, acai and kiwi!

Styles You’re Loving Lately:
BJ: Boho and surfy are my vibes! I love anything that is white, flows and has a drop of lace. When it comes to dressing up I love a tight skirt or dress that goes below the knees. It’s super sexy and classy.

A Message to Your Fans/ Other Dreamers:

BJ: Don’t settle for a mediocre life. Follow your heart, give back to the world and do what you are deeply passionate about. The world NEEDS you to step up and live in your purpose for being here. Be extraordinary!
